Loosely based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet and circled around the savannah of Pride Rock, The Lion King features a struggle for power between young Simba and Mufasa. This 3.1-mile run even features a drumline, motivating runners as you make your way to the finish line! Participants in the 5k run have the opportunity to register a school PTA, church, or other organization to receive proceeds from the run. Featuring nearly 100 local arts – painters, photographers, sculptors, metalworkers, glass artists, jewelers, and more – the Callanwolde Arts Festival is the place to check out the latest in Atlanta’s vibrant arts scene and support local artists. The festival includes a number of gourmet food trucks, as well as musical and dance performances. The Callanwolde Arts Festival is part of the Atlanta Foundation for Public Spaces, which supports local artists in various disciplines. In January, Georgia’s HBCU marching bands come together with other regional bands for an epic Battle of the Bands at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The showcase features eight bands with eight musical performances. Bands featured in the 2018 Battle of the Bands are: Alabama A&M University, Alabama State University, Bethune Cookman University, Hampton University, Miles College, North Carolina A&T State University, Prairie View A&M, and Tennessee State University.
